Job Summary:
  • We are seeking an Engineering Technician based at the Whitestown Seed Center (WSC) in Whitestown, IN.
  • The Engineering Technician will be part of the Reliability Team at the WSC and will be responsible for the maintenance and reliability of automated systems within the seed center.
  • As part of a team of other technicians and engineers, this individual will assist in the identification of opportunities for improvements to existing systems and designs and tasked with implementing changes to increase productivity, improve reliability, or ensure compliance with safety and quality requirements.
  • We are looking for a self-motivated person who can work both in a team and independently.
  • Individuals who will succeed in this role will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment; they can be hands-on with equipment; and will utilize a PC to collect/analyze data, control automated systems, and communicate with other team members.
  • The successful Engineering Technician will also enjoy variety in their day-to-day work tasks at the WSC and be willing to travel to other sites, on occasion, to gain exposure to other parts of the business and to assist other teams as business needs may require.
Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with Reliability team members, design engineers, and the Operations team to ensure automated lines run in a safe, efficient manner and at a rate adequate to meet output goals.
  • Be very hands-on in the deployment, integration, testing, and ongoing support of automated equipment (industrial robots, AS/RS systems, PLCs, conveyors) and assist design engineers with the fabrication and construction of custom-built systems.
  • On a team with engineers and other technicians, provide technical expertise in troubleshooting of issues and the deployment of solutions.
  • Participate in validation procedures including calibration, qualification, and adjustments as necessary.
  • Support process improvement including troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and controls components in the pursuit of the root cause(s) of failures.
  • Execute preventative, predictive, and conditions-based maintenance procedures as appropriate and ensure that detailed documentation and records are maintained.
  • Provide technical support for projects at other sites as necessary to ensure successful implementation.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience with and demonstrated knowledge of automated systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a highly automated production or distribution environment.
  • Experience with troubleshooting of controls systems.
  • Experience in a system support or maintenance role.
  • Above-average computer skills.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to interact with team members at all levels in a professional manner, advocate for change, and seek resolution to issues that arise.
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, controls, and software issues related to complex automated systems.
  • Proficiency in interpreting electrical and mechanical plans and drawings.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to stand, lift, carry, and climb frequently or for extended periods.
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel (?10%) to assist with projects at other sites as business needs require.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Associates degree in engineering technology desired.
  • 5 or more years of experience in supporting or installing automated systems.
  • Experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley).
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, structured problem-solving or continuous improvement methodologies (FMEA, Six Sigma, Lean, etc.).
