GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
This is a high-level design position, often involving segments of complex equipment, mechanisms and/or processes.  Position requires developing cost-effective solutions to problems in assigned areas of design or development projects.  Contributes to evaluations, conclusions and recommendations on projects within area of specialization.  Work assignments have significant impact on project objectives.   Considerable creativity and initiative are required.  Must display initiative in developing new approaches to solve technological problems.  Occasional travel required.
 
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
An Associate’s Degree in mechanical design and a minimum of six years related experience.  Must have proven experience in the engineer-to-order machinery industry (i.e. converting, printing, plastics, packaging machinery manufacturing).   While the position is for mechanical design in nature, a basic knowledge of electrical components and systems is required.  Also required is a working knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1)   Completes specialized design, detailing and checking of complex mechanisms, processes or equipment
      installations with minimum supervision.  Ensures that designs conform to national and international
      standards as required.

2)   Responsible for the mechanical design of machinery and mechanical systems used on machines.

3)   Responsible for development, accuracy and maintenance of mechanical drawing packages as assigned,
      including layouts, details, assemblies and schematics. 

4)   Specifies materials, components, heat treatments and manufacturing methods.

5)   Assists purchasing, manufacturing, assembly and service with procurement, fabrication, assembly,
      debugging and start-up of specific machinery or processes.

6)   Provides direction to other designers and drafters as required.

7)   Prepares reports and estimates, and participates in design reviews as required.  This may involve contact
      with equipment vendors, marketing personnel and customers.

8)   Responsible for the structuring of bills of material, including information concerning machinery assembly.
9)   Assists with special projects as assigned.

10) Understands and utilizes the company's integrated business system effectively.

11)  Is proficient in the use of AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
