Description
Primary Role
Responsible for interpreting data, determining requirements, developing and executing detailed
engineering design, and providing technical support in specified engineering discipline (electrical) during
design, design review, construction, commissioning and initial operation of medium complexity capital
investment projects. Assist internal technical resources and supervise external consulting firms on
assigned projects. Also, serve as technical expert in specified engineering discipline as it pertains to the
planning and delivery of assets and Company operations. Further, for assets within assigned area of
expertise, contribute to the development of technical standards, standard specifications, policies, and
procedures, and maintain approved product/vendor lists. Responsible for conducting arc flash hazard
analyses for power distribution systems at numerous water and wastewater treatment, pumping, storage,
and conveyance facilities.
Key Accountabilities
• Conduct electrical evaluations and facility inspections to identify capital improvements necessary
to reliably meet future water supply needs via existing or proposed facilities. Develop design
concepts for design of new or expansion/renovation of existing electrical systems to support
water and wastewater supply and treatment facilities.
• Prepare, or manage via third party consulting firms, the preparation of technical, bidding, and
contractual documents associated with delivery of assigned capital investment
projects. Oversee scope and quality of work to achieve the intent of all design concepts and
Company standards for capacity, performance, reliability, safety, and regulatory
compliance. Serve as technical resource during construction, commissioning, and initial
operation of assets.
• Design of power distribution facilities for water and wastewater projects.
• Develop and/or utilize existing computerized modeling programs to design and/or assess power
distribution systems, including electrical coordination studies and arc flash hazard analysis
(AFHA). Use computer modeling software to quantify incident energy and PPE requirements
for power distribution systems up to 4,160 volts. Manage AFHA program and devise methods
to assure AFHA analyses are properly documented and retained for future updates at over 5000
Company installations.
• Develop proficiency on matters within assigned discipline, including technical design, electrical
maintenance, asset management, and operations. Contribute to the development of
Engineering Standards, specifications, and equipment manufacturer recommendations
