Role Purpose
Direct support of the manufacturing process with technical responsibility for tooling, part fabrication, assembly and delivery. Provide "state of the art" processing technology as it applies to both materials and techniques for tooling, part fabrication and assembly.
  • Tool Designers must have the following: CATIA and/or UGNX, TeamCenter, and Composite experience 
Key Responsibilities
  • May provide leadership to less experienced Tooling Production Engineers and support personnel relative to the accountabilities listed below.
  • Accountable for tooling product development, tool fabrication quotes, first article development, configuration changes that involve cost estimation, schedule coordination, build process definition, and implementation.
  • Responsible for ensuring tools are consistent with company and customer supplied quality assurance standards
  • Responsible for the design and/or transition of tools from design to production in order to verify tooling functionality and suitability, tool coordination, production part quality and tool delivery schedule.
  • Responsible for disposition, preparation of work instructions, and follow up on nonconforming (N/C) tools. May write N/C programs. 
  • Monitors tools with past discrepancies through root cause analysis and corrective action implementation to ensure past problems do not resurface.
  • Continuously improves tooling processes via work instructions, statistical process control (SPC), tooling process changes and tooling design orders.
  • Identifies and implements Lean initiatives to improve production processes and flow.
  • Tracks and resolves issues pertaining to vendor schedule and or quality requirements.
  • Maintains positive, teaming relationship with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers.
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance.
  • Performs other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
 
Qualifications
Education
The position requires a B.S. degree or equivalent in Tooling engineering or related discipline or a minimum of 5 years of equivalent experience in lieu of engineering degree.
 
Experience
  • A minimum of four years of experience with a minimum of two years of manufacturing tooling support experience. 
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of multiple tooling engineering applications and manufacturing procedures.
  • Must possess effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Physical Demands
  • Frequently required to spend long hours sitting at a work stations and using office equipment. 
  • Frequently required to spend long hours walking and standing on the production floor
  • May be required to walk or stand for brief periods
  • May be required to use stairs when elevator is not available
  • Must occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 25 pounds of office supplies and materials 
  • May be required to reach with arms and hands and to stoop, kneel or crouch
